Avantium's releaf® wins Formes de Luxe Award 2026 in Materials category
AMSTERDAM, 29 September 2026 – Avantium N.V., a leader in renewable and circular polymer materials, is proud to announce that its plant-based polymer solution releaf® has won the Formes de Luxe Award 2026 in the Materials category. The award was presented during LUXE PACK Monaco, the world's leading trade show for creative packaging. The award ceremony brought together representatives of leading luxury brands, packaging manufacturers, designers and sustainability innovators from around the world. As one of the luxury packaging industry's most prestigious sustainability awards, the Formes de Luxe Awards recognize innovations that help brands reduce their environmental footprint while maintaining the quality and performance expected in premium packaging. The jury selected releaf® as the winner in the Materials category, recognizing its potential to support the transition towards renewable and circular packaging materials for luxury applications.
releaf® is Avantium's high-performance polymer based on FDCA (furandicarboxylic acid), a plant-based chemical building block produced from renewable feedstocks. The material combines excellent barrier properties with improved recyclability and a significantly lower carbon footprint than conventional fossil-based plastics, helping brands advance their sustainability and circularity ambitions while maintaining high- performance standards. releaf® has already been tested and validated by converters and brands across formats such as compacts, skincare jars, mascaras, liquid make-up containers, pouches, deodorants, thick-walled containers, and caps and closures.
The award reflects the growing momentum behind sustainable innovation in luxury packaging and underlines the increasing interest in renewable materials among leading global brands.
