Avantium Receives Extension of EPBP Interim Endorsement for the Recycling of PEF

AMSTERDAM, 1 July 2025 – Avantium N.V., a leader in renewable and circular polymer materials, is pleased to announce that the European PET Bottle Platform (EPBP) has extended its interim endorsement for the recycling of bottles containing PEF (polyethylene furanoate) in a designated test market. The assessment specifically refers to the use of PEF for the production of bottles and similar articles, as well as its application as a barrier layer in multilayer PET (polyethylene terephthalate) bottles within the European bottle recycling market.

The extension is valid until 30 June 2027 and supports Avantium’s continued efforts to scale up its innovative material solutions in real-world applications. Avantium will continue to collaborate with EPBP by providing updated technical data and supporting further testing as Avantium’s FDCA Flagship Plant becomes fully operational.

The extension of the EPBP endorsement in Europe, the APR Critical Guidance recognition in the United States and the RecyClass validation in Europe reflect the growing international support for PEF, branded as releaf®, as a next-generation, circular material in sustainable packaging.

About Avantium

Avantium is a pioneering commercial-stage company focused on renewable & circular polymer materials. Avantium develops and commercializes innovative technologies for the production of materials based on sustainable carbon feedstocks, i.e. carbon from biomass or carbon from the air (CO2).
