Avantium hosts European Parliament dialogue on reindustrialising Europe through sustainable chemistry

AMSTERDAM, 4 June 2026 – Avantium N.V., a leader in renewable and circular polymer materials, together with Jeannette BalJeu, Member of the European Parliament from the Renew Europe Group, will host an event titled “Reindustrialising Europe Through Sustainable Chemistry: From Crisis to Opportunity” on 24 June 2026 at the European Parliament in Brussels. The event will bring together policymakers, industry representatives and academic experts to discuss how Europe can strengthen its chemical industry through sustainable chemistry solutions. The discussion will in particular explore whether bio-based and circular carbon can serve as a new industrial platform to support competitiveness, reduce dependence on fossil feedstocks and reinforce Europe’s industrial base.

This dialogue takes place at a time when the European chemical industry is facing structural challenges, including plant closures, high energy costs and increasing global competition. The sector remains largely dependent on fossil-based feedstocks, leaving it exposed to price volatility and raising questions about its long-term competitiveness. At the same time, new European policy initiatives are creating opportunities to reshape the industry and support the transition to more sustainable and resilient value chains.

The event is hosted by Member of the European Parliament Jeannette Baljeu (Renew Europe Group) and will feature contributions from speakers including Hans Ingels (European Commission, DG GROW), Marco Pellegrini (Cefic), Joel Tickner (University of Massachusetts Lowell), and Marco Jansen, Chief Commercial Officer of Avantium. The programme will cover policy perspectives, industry developments and business cases related to sustainable carbon solutions.

About Avantium
Avantium is a pioneering commercial-stage company focused on renewable & circular polymer materials. Avantium develops and commercializes innovative technologies for the production of

materials based on sustainable carbon feedstocks, i.e. carbon from biomass or carbon from the air (CO2). The most advanced technology is YXY® Technology that catalytically converts plant-based sugars into FDCA (furandicarboxylic acid), the key building block for the sustainable plastic PEF (polyethylene furanoate). PEF is known under the brand name releaf®, an EU registered trademark of Avantium. Avantium has successfully demonstrated the YXY® Technology at its pilot plant in Geleen, the Netherlands, and is in the process of starting the world's first commercial plant for FDCA in Delfzijl, the Netherlands.  Avantium works in partnership with like-minded companies around the globe to develop revolutionary renewable chemistry solutions from invention to commercial scale.

Avantium’s shares are listed on Euronext Amsterdam and Euronext Brussels (symbol: AVTX). Avantium is incorporated in the Euronext Amsterdam SmallCap Index (AScX). Its offices and headquarters are in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
